Registered Sessions or Drop-in Classes: Which is Better?
For over ten years I have been teaching yoga classes. In that time I have offered drop-in classes, class passes and registered sessions and I am still researching to see which works best for the students, myself and Tone Studio, (where I share yoga).
Last month I created a facebook event and a poster. I sent out a newsletter and put a class on the summer calendar at Tone Studio. It was a registered session - Gentle Yoga for Hips and Shoulders at 5:30pm on Tuesdays.
The reason I switched the class from drop-in to registered session was because it was summer. I wanted to make sure that I would have a minimum of six registered students in order to pay for my time and travel expenses.
Guess how many registrants?
Eighteen!
I was surprised because people are busy in the summer and often class sizes are smaller than usual.
So does this mean that registered sessions are better than drop-in classes? It depends who you ask. I have compiled a quick pros and cons chart for registered sessions from the perspective of studios, students and teachers.
Today - I made a decision to keep my Tuesday 5:30pm class a registered session, so I will have more research to share with you in September, October and November. Now comes the work of advertising, planning and setting my intention focused on my niche!
Do you run registered sessions or drop-in classes or both? What works best for you?
