I created a pranayama chart for my own clarification on breath practices and how they affect the mind. I often refer to it before a teacher training, workshop or class focused on breath.

What is pranayama?

Pranayama is one of the eight limbs of yoga. It translates literally to control of the breath and is what allows the connection between body and mind. For example if you slow the breath down, you send a message to the body and the mind that all is well, that there is no tiger chasing you. This is helpful in rush hour traffic.

An example of a calming, cooling breath practice is Sitali Pranayama.

It can be confusing and difficult to remember all of the left and right nostril breathing notes, but I hope this pranayama chart is helpful and so I am sharing it. If you have any questions I would be happy to look for the answer or if you have notes to add please leave comments below.

Happy Breathing!
